Films don’t direct themselves, or at least we don’t think anyone’s developed an algorithm for that yet, so once we knew we were making this one, we had to find ourselves a director.
And really, from the beginning, we only had one person in mind. For anyone who has seen any of Larry Weinstein’s films, you’ll know why. Whether it is The Devil’s Horn, Mozartballs, Beethoven’s Hair or September Songs: The Music of Kurt Weill, Larry brings a sense of fun and mischief to the subject of music that we thought would be perfect for The Jews Who Wrote Christmas. In fact, as we began to work with him, much of this film became inspired by Larry’s own experiences.
If you have time, or even if you don’t, we urge you to check out some of his films. We like to think they were all leading him to this one.
